Bio
Faisal Khan is the founder of 1ExtraordinaryLife, LLC an executive coaching and organizational well-being consultancy whose mission is to help people thrive at work and beyond by utilizing the tools available from the science of human flourishing, positive psychology.

In addition to his substantial experience as a finance and technology executive in corporate America and the UK, Faisal is a subject matter expert on the topic of human flourishing; he has helped many people begin their journeys to realize their potential and become extraordinary both professionally and personally.

Since 2008, he has helped people flourish in life through coaching, consulting and training at the individual and organizational level. By focusing on areas that need improvement, in addition to strengths that can be nurtured, Faisal uses his unique blend of corporate, academic, and professional expertise to help people thrive in life.

Faisal holds a master’s degree from The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and a Master in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, the birth place of Positive Psychology. In addition, he is a member of the International Coach Federation, a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach, a Certified Applied Positive Psychology Practitioner, and a Certified Applied Positive Psychology Coach.

Having spent many years working in some of the world’s largest consulting and pharmaceutical companies, Faisal recognized how success in large organizations happens when they manage to optimize their resources towards the organization's mission. Companies who are able unleash the potential in their human capital not only succeed, but thrive. Such companies have systems, processes and programs in place to ensure that the company stays on track to deliver its mission. Faisal believes that it is a similar garnering of resources at the individual level, physically, psychologically, socially, and intellectually that can be harnessed to help individuals thrive in life, making one more productive, more efficient and a step closer to extraordinary.

Faisal is a graduate assistant instructor in the Master of Applied Positive Psychology Program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the founder of the Penn Program for Flourishing at the University of Pennsylvania, a program to help students gain the skills to flourish in school life and beyond. He is an occasional guest lecturer at the Wharton Business School and is a member of the Forbes Coaching Council.

Capstone title and abstract
Employee well-being and engagement workshops: An example using positive emotions

Employee engagement is a topic of increasing importance to employers as research continues to unveil the impacts of better employee engagement on work performance. This paper discusses two models that establish important correlations between employee engagement and positive psychology, the science of human flourishing. The paper explores the idea that training employees in relevant topics from positive psychology not only helps employees increase their well-being and engagement, but also results in better business outcomes. Topics from positive psychology, positive organizational scholarship and positive organization behavior are presented as a robust outline for a series of engagement and well-being training workshops in organizations, with a description of why certain topics have been grouped together. Positive emotions, one of the key areas of positive psychology, has been used as an example of how to create content for these training workshops. A literature review provides the knowledge base for positive emotions and is meant to be used as a reference guide for the workshops. Appendices provide various ideas about activities that can be conducted in workshops to teach employees in organizations about positive emotions and how they can benefit from them.
